GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS – NATIVE PASTURES, FORESTRY, RIGHTS OF WAY, COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL AREAS, DOMESTIC AND PUBLIC SERVICE AREAS, ESTABLISHED PASTURES AND PASTURE RENOVATION

Farmalinx METFURON 600 WG Herbicide is a selective herbicide designed for rapid absorption by roots and leaves. Follow these general instructions for optimal results:

  • Surfactant/Wetting Agent: Always add a surfactant/wetting agent to the mixture.
  • Application Timing: Apply to actively growing plants that are not stressed by factors like dry weather or waterlogging.
  • Complete Coverage: Thoroughly cover the plants for maximum herbicide uptake.
  • Regrowth Management: Regrowth may occur if applied during plant stress or with incomplete coverage. Retreatment is recommended at specified rates.
  • Legume Sensitivity: Legumes are highly sensitive to METFURON 600 WG and will be removed from pasture if oversprayed.
  • Introduced Grass Species: Some introduced grass species may be severely damaged if oversprayed.
  • Weed Growth Conditions: Apply to actively growing weeds. Weeds not actively growing due to adverse conditions may only be stunted or suppressed.
  • Effect on Pasture Grasses: Some grasses in pasture may be damaged, reducing biomass production for several months.
  • Interval after Previous Herbicide Use: Wait for at least two years after using other herbicides, burning, or slashing before treating with METFURON 600 WG.
  • Avoid Mature Blackberry Bushes: Do not apply to mature blackberry bushes if intended for food purposes.
  • Effect on Perennial Phalaris and Cocksfoot: Temporary yellowing and stunting may occur on Perennial Phalaris and established Perennial Cocksfoot.
  • Effect on All Grasses and Legumes: ALL grasses and legumes can be damaged or removed by a METFURON/Glyphosate mixture.
  • Weed Recovery from Grazing: Allow weeds to recover from grazing before herbicide application for better results, especially for Sorrel and Docks.

ESTABLISHED PASTURES AND PASTURE RENOVATION:

  • Sorrel Seedlings: Some Sorrel seedlings may germinate the following year.
  • Ungerminated Clover: Ungerminated clover will not be affected, but seed set of clover in the year following application will be reduced.
  • Pasture Topping: For pasture topping situations, METFURON 600 WG may be mixed with glyphosate. Observe crop rotation recommendations.

SPRAY PREPARATION:

  • Mixing with Water: METFURON 600 WG is a dry flowable granule. Mix with clean water, and always add a wetting agent/surfactant.
  • Agitation: Maintain agitation to keep the product in suspension. Re-agitate if the spray solution stands before use.
  • Equipment without Agitation: For equipment without agitation, pre-mix METFURON in a bucket or jug with water and add to the spray tank/knapsack.

USE OF SURFACTANT/WETTING AGENT:

  • METFURON 600 WG Alone: Always use a surfactant/wetting agent. If not specified, use a non-ionic surfactant at 100 mL/100 L of final spray volume.
  • METFURON 600 WG + Glyphosate: When tank mixing with glyphosate, use a non-ionic surfactant. In some cases, an organosilicone penetrant like Pulse1 is recommended.
  • Gas Gun Applications: For gas gun applications, add an organosilicone penetrant (e.g., Pulse1) at the specified rate.

APPLICATION EQUIPMENT:

  • Knapsack: Ensure thorough coverage, and use a suitable dye to track treated plants.
  • Handgun: Use appropriate pressure based on target species and bush size.
  • Boom Spray: Calibrate the boom for even coverage, fan nozzles recommended. Apply a minimum of 150 L prepared spray per hectare.
  • Gas Gun: Ensure thorough coverage, and use a suitable dye if possible.
  • Aerial Application: (Helicopter only) Use proper calibration and apply a minimum of 100 L/ha on blackberries. Avoid spraying in adverse conditions.

TANK MIXES WITH GLYPHOSATE HERBICIDE:

  • Compatibility: METFURON 600 WG is compatible with glyphosate formulations and various pasture herbicides and insecticides. Always check companion product labels for instructions/restrictions.

CROP ROTATION RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Sensitivity to METFURON 600 WG: Many crop species are sensitive to metsulfuron methyl. Soil factors like pH, moisture, and temperature affect its breakdown. Rotation should consider these factors.
