GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

SPUTNIK Herbicide is effective for selective weed control in specified crops and fallow fields. Proper application techniques are crucial for optimal efficacy and crop safety.

Pre-Emergence Application:

  • Apply to a smooth, moist seedbed free of soil clods and emerged weeds.

  • Weeds buried by cultivation may not be effectively controlled.

  • Sufficient rainfall (20 to 30 mm) or irrigation within 2 to 3 weeks of application is necessary for activation.

  • Avoid application to recently burnt stubble/trash, and ensure rainfall or cultivation allows SPUTNIK to reach the soil.

Post-Emergence Application:

  • Use in triazine-tolerant canola up to the 6-leaf stage and sorghum up to the 5-7 leaf stage.

  • Always add Hasten at 500 mL/100 L water.

  • Apply by ground boom only in a minimum of 50 L/ha with COARSE spray quality.

Integrated Weed Management Strategy for TT Canola:

  • Comply with approved Integrated Weed Management Strategy for triazine herbicides in TT canola.

  • Implement practices to minimize herbicide resistance and manage volunteer plants and outcrossing.

  • Seek specific expert advice for adapting strategies to local conditions.

Precautions:

  • Do not apply under conditions conducive to spray drift onto nearby susceptible plants/crops, cropping lands, or pastures.

  • Avoid applying during weather conditions with wind speeds less than 3 or greater than 20 km/h, or when surface temperature inversions can develop.

Resistant Weeds Warning:

  • SPUTNIK Herbicide belongs to the triazines group with inhibitors of photosynthesis at photosystem II mode of action (Group C).

  • Use in consecutive years or repeated applications may lead to resistant weed biotypes.

  • Collect and test plant or seed samples where resistant weeds are suspected, and seek professional advice.

Mixing and Application:

  • Do not mix or load within 20 m of any well, dam, stream, or water body.

  • Agitate thoroughly during mixing and spraying, and do not allow spray to stand without agitation.

  • Use only COARSE spray quality according to ASAE S572 definition for standard nozzles.

APVMA Compliance Instructions for Mandatory COARSE or Larger Droplet Size Categories:

  • Choose nozzles rated to deliver a COARSE, VERY COARSE, or EXTREMELY COARSE droplet size category as referenced to ASAE S572 or BCPC.

  • Use a higher spray system pressure than specified by the nozzle manufacturer to deliver the required droplet size category.

Follow all label instructions carefully, and obtain specific advice when needed for successful weed management and crop protection.
