Ring fern
Paesia scaberula
Paesia scaberula or ring fern or mātata is a lacy, creeping New Zealand fern that grows up to 115 centimetres (45 in) with yellow-green fronds, brown stalks and a distinctive smell.
This fern can be found throughout the North and South Islands, Stewart Island and the Chatham Islands
This plant is often a weed here, volunteering in glasshouses -- especially in propagation pans when trying to propagate other ferns from spores or slow-germinating native seeds. Often seen growing under decks, sometimes on heavy clay soil.
