For the control of annual meadow-grass and annual broad-leaved weeds in sugar beet, fodder beet, red beet and mangels. A Suspo-emulsion (SE) containing 51 g/l ethofumesate (4.83% w/w), 153 g/l metamitron (14.48% w/w) and 51 g/l phenmedipham (4.83% w/w).

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be read carefully in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.
PHEMO is a post-emergence herbicide for control of seedling annual meadow-grass and annual broadleaved weeds in sugar beet, fodder beet, red beet and mangels. It is absorbed through the roots and the leaves of weeds with translocation to the target sites of the weed plants. Due to the presence of 3 active substances, PHEMO has a broad working spectrum and does not need to be mixed with other herbicides.
For best results ensure an even spray coverage when weeds are actively growing and at a young growth stage i.e. the cotyledon stage. In general at this time the crop is in a similar growth stage. If necessary, the application can be repeated when new weeds appear.
Do not apply with hand-held equipment.

RESTRICTIONS
PHEMO should not be applied on crops under stress e.g. from the use of other pesticides, wind damage, lime deficiency, nutrient deficiencies, insect or fungal attack, etc., as this may cause irreversible damage to the crop. Do not apply if temperature is likely to rise above 21°C on the day of spraying and avoid spraying in full sunlight. In these cases, delay application until the evening.
Do not apply immediately after a frost, or if frost is expected.
Care should be taken when using herbicide sequences, particularly on light soils and in wet seasons. Do not roll or harrow the crop for 7 days before or after application.
Do not apply to wet foliage or during rainfall or drizzle. In principle, all varieties of sugar beet, fodder beet, red beet and mangels can be sprayed providing the crop is not under stress at the time of application.
The crops should not be sprayed before the fully developed cotyledon stage.
When spraying take care to avoid drift onto neighbouring crops, buildings or non-target plants
Application on soils containing 5% or more organic matter may give lower levels of weed control as residual activity can be impeded. Effects on processing of the crops have not been fully tested. Consult processor before use

WEED CONTROL
PHEMO is a selective herbicide for control of seedling annual meadow-grass and annual broad-leaved weeds. It acts mainly by contact action, but under favourable (growing) conditions the product can also give some residual control of later germinating flushes of weeds.

TIMING
Correctly timed application at young weeds of PHEMO in a repeated spray programme will control the following weeds in the cotyledon stage. Please note that the level of control is depending on the correct dose and timing.

CROP SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Do not use more than 10 litres/ha PHEMO per crop (growth season). The weed control for the repeated spray programme should be started when weeds are in the cotyledon stage. At this timing the crop is normally at the same growth stage. An interval of minimum 7 days must be observed between successive applications.

Standard spray programme:
Apply 2 litres/ha PHEMO when the weeds are in cotyledon stage to one-leaf-stage.
If necessary, repeat the application when new weeds appear.

When less sensitive weed species such as Polygonum spp. occur, or when weeds are beyond the oneleaf-stage the dose can be increased as follows:
Apply 2.5 litres/ha PHEMO when the weeds are in cotyledon to one-leaf-stage.
Apply 3 litres/ha PHEMO when the weeds are in two-leaf-stage.
Apply 3.5 litres/ha PHEMO when the weeds are in three- to four-leaf stage. If necessary, repeat the application at the correct dose when new weeds appear.

SUCCEEDING CROPS
To prevent damage after treatment with PHEMO due to possible residues of the active substances ethofumesate and metamitron in the soil, the field should be ploughed and cultivated prior to sowing or planting a following crop, for instance when winter cereals will be grown or when crop failure has occurred. In case of failure of a crop in which PHEMO was used, the following crops can be sown: maize, fodder beets and sugar beets.
Providing 16 weeks elapse from the last application of PHEMO, winter cereals may be sown in the same year.

MIXING AND APPLICATION
Check and clean all hoses, nozzles and equipment to be used prior to use. Half fill the sprayer tank with clean water and begin agitation. Add the required quantity of PHEMO. Fill the spray tank with water as required whilst agitating. Continue agitating during spraying. Do not leave mixed product standing in container overnight. Use immediately.
Apply at the appropriate dose in 150-250 litres/ha water as a MEDIUM quality spray with LOW drift potential. After application, all equipment should be flushed with a dilute detergent solution and thoroughly rinsed with clean water at least 3 times. Care should be taken not to rinse contaminated washings from application equipment into waste water channels. Contaminated cleaning liquids should be disposed of safely according to local regulations.
