General Instructions:

Resistant Weeds Warning:

  • Group Herbicide 4, Group Herbicide 12: Smart Trex Herbicide belongs to the phenoxy and nicotinanalide groups of herbicides. It inhibits carotenoid biosynthesis and disrupts plant cell growth. It is classified as both a Group 4 and a Group 12 herbicide for weed resistance management.
  • Some naturally occurring weed biotypes resistant to Smart Trex and other Group 4 and Group 12 herbicides may exist through normal genetic variability.
  • Resistant weeds will not be controlled by Smart Trex or other Group 4 or Group 12 herbicides.
  • Crop Smart Pty Ltd accepts no liability for losses resulting from the failure of Smart Trex to control resistant weeds.

Tolerance:

  • Some pre-emergence herbicides, such as atrazine, can cause stress to certain crops, resulting in an increase in crop damage when using Smart Trex. Sub-clover is particularly sensitive.
  • Cereals: After application, transient crop yellowing may occur, but normal development and subsequent growth will be unaffected under favorable conditions.
  • Oats Warning: The tolerance of varieties Esk and Nile (mainly grown in Tasmania) to Smart Trex has not been tested. Test a small area of the crop before using it extensively.
  • Pasture: Tolerance of clover varieties can vary with the rate of application, soil type, crop health, stage of growth, and degree of moisture and temperature stress.
  • Warning for Pasture: Smart Trex may result in transient crop yellowing and suppression of growth, particularly at rates above 500 mL/ha and in areas of double spray. Application is recommended prior to the 8th trifoliate leaf stage to minimize these effects.

Varieties Showing Tolerance:

  • Under normal growing conditions, certain varieties of ArrowLeaf, Balansa, Berseem, Persian, White, Subterranean Clover, and others have shown acceptable levels of foliage tolerance to Smart Trex applied at 500 mL/ha.

Varieties with Increased Sensitivity:

  • Rose and Strawberry clover have shown increased sensitivity to Smart Trex. It may affect the seed yield of subterranean variety Woogenellup. Some pasture grasses, including Phalaris and Cocksfoot, may show initial reduction in vegetative growth. Care should be taken with sensitive clover varieties or grasses in the pasture sward.

Subsequent Crops:

  • Thoroughly cultivate the soil before sowing susceptible crops (e.g., canola) to reduce the effects of Smart Trex.

Mixing:

  • Half-fill the spray tank with clean water and add the required amount of Smart Trex. Agitate thoroughly, then add the remainder of the water. Agitate again before spraying commences.
  • Reseal partially used product containers immediately after use.
  • Spray mixtures containing Smart Trex should not be left to stand overnight.

Rubber Component Warning:

  • The rubber components present in some spraying units may be affected by exposure to the solvents in Smart Trex and some other agricultural products. Wash the spray unit thoroughly with a boom cleaner and fresh water after use.

Application:

  • Boom Sprayer: Use a minimum of 50L of water per hectare, but for optimal results, water rates of 70-100L/ha are recommended. Increase water volume for heavy weed infestation or dense crop cover. Complete coverage of weeds is essential.
