Ring nematode

Criconemella ornata

In microplots heavily infested with C. ornata, roots, pods and pegs of groundnut plants were severely discoloured with brown necrotic lesions (Minton and Bell, 1969). Small necrotic lesions were often superficial, but necrosis in large lesions extended deep into the tissues. Many lateral root primordia and young roots were killed, resulting in reduced numbers of lateral roots. Plants are stunted and show chlorosis, the characteristic 'peanut yellows'.
