GENERAL APPLICATION:

Equipment and Carrier:

  • Apply only with hand-directed equipment like a pneumatic sprayer.
  • Use sprayers with Viton seals and fittings to prevent diesel affecting rubber seals.
  • Diesel may affect rubber seals in some sprayers; hence, compatibility with Viton seals is recommended.

Spray Equipment Guidelines

  • Operate spray equipment at low pressures (up to 200 kPa) to avoid splashing.
  • Ensure all stems on multi-stemmed varieties are treated.
  • Delay treatment until regrowth on bulldozed or ploughed land emerges to a height of at least 1 meter.
  • Do not treat species that lose leaves (e.g., sweet briar) or become dormant (e.g., Australian blackthorn or camphor laurel) during winter.
  • Thoroughly wet species with old, rough bark compared to smooth-barked species.

Application Methods:

  1. Basal Bark Application:

    • Dilute the indicated volume of QUAKE with diesel up to a total volume of 60 L.
    • Liberally spray the bark around the stem from ground level to 30 cm high, wetting thoroughly to the point of runoff.
    • For QUAKE Thinline basal bark application, reduce the application band to 5 cm high with a proportionally increased concentration (one part Quake diluted with 9 parts diesel) for specific woody weed species.
  2. Cut Stump Method:

    • Cut stems less than 15 cm above ground level.
    • Immediately apply Quake diesel mixture liberally to the freshly cut stump, spraying the cut surface and sides of the stem.

Cleaning Spray Equipment:

  1. Rinse Water Disposal:

    • Discharge rinse water onto a designated disposal area.
    • If unavailable, discharge onto unused land away from desirable plants and watercourses.
  2. Cleaning Process:

    • After spraying, use a degreaser (e.g., Caltex Kwik-D-Grease) to remove diesel traces.
    • Rinse tank and spray through nozzles thoroughly with water to remove degreaser.
    • Quarter-fill the tank with clean water.
    • Add alkali detergent (e.g., liquid SURF, OMO, DRIVE at 500 mL/100 L of water or equivalent powder at 500 g/100L of water).
    • Do not use chlorine-based cleaners.
    • Shake water around the sprayer, spray the solution through nozzles to clean lines and nozzles.
    • Rinse well with clean water to remove detergent.
  3. Cleaning Brushes and Container:

    • Clean brushes and container by spraying liberally with degreaser.
    • Hose off thoroughly with water.
    • Repeat using detergents as specified above.

Note: Do not use this equipment for any other purpose.
