Common armyworm

Mythimna convecta

They are medium-sized, with a wingspan of 30-40 mm. The forewings are dull yellow to red-brown, speckled with tiny black dots, and a small white dot near the centre. Pupae are about 20 mm long, shiny brown and are found under clods or within cracks in the soil.
